After selling my 10" and advantage box a while ago, I am missing the bass in my music and after riding around with my friend who has 2 12" Audiobahn's in his truck I really want thr bass back. I may go with a Image Dynamics IDQ with a single 4ohm VC. I really want some good deep bass. Has anyone heard one of these? MSrSteve, what about you? I remember reading you were getting one or 2 of these, did you get them? How do you like them? I know I won't be getting as much bass as m friend with the 2 Audiobahn's powered by something like 800 watts, but do you think I can get some deep bass from this 12" powered by n MTX 400 watt (bridged) amp? Thanks guys.

from what i've heard, IDQ are one of the best for SQ, but they lack in SPL. You wont get that much bass from them, but it depends what you want. infinity perfects are another option. they are nice mix of SPL and SQ. i have 2 powered by a 600x1@4ohm bridged amp running a 2 ohm load (even though it could be bad for the amp). They get plenty loud for ANY average listener. I'm sure 400watts would push one fine. Find some people that have some IDQ's and see how they sound. Your ear is the best way to tell what you like.

good luck,

Not what you're looking for......

They are expensive, but the Eclipse Aluminum subs are insane. I've got 2 12in dvc's and they pound like nothing else! I love em! Just thought I'd chime in and tell ya about my exprience.
Pete

IDQ is NOT, i repeat, NOT expensive ... you can get them for like 100 a piece.

Why don't you take a look at some Mtx 6000 series 12's. I have 4 currently powered by a MTX 2300x and to tell you the truth I am in love with them. One can pick them up for $100 a piece and you can throw them in a 1 cu. ft box. What else do you need?

never heard much good about 6k series .. or even 8k... for 100 get idq's. but i guess its all preference.

I got two 15" Hollywood Sound Labs Excursions (X-1580D) in a sealed box and a 2000 watt "High Voltage" Excursion amp and that's the best system I've had so far. After getting my fosgates stolen, I had these competitions speakers put in my explorer and the bass is very clear and inexpensive. I paid $900 and installed it myself.

Personally, I prefer these over Kickers or Pioneers, you'll just have to hear them for youself.

Check out their website to find a dealer near your area.

Good Luck!

Yeah I found a place that has the IDQs for something like$110 or so. I want something that is going to hit reeally deep and sound like the bass drum is right behind you (like in Metallica songs). I love the way that sounds. I don't want to go much more than $150 for a sub, cause I also have to get a box for it, so that is about another $30-40. Would a Polk DX series sub sound really good in a sealed box? I was thinking of getting a friend of mine to buy one from Circut City (he works there) so I can get a deal. I don't listen to much, if any, rap or poppy stuff, so I like some good crisp bass with some rock music. Thanks

if you want crisp bass, get the idq's. Thats what SQ is ... nice tight bass. and they are some of the best SQ subs, especially for the money.

And if you want to save money on the enclosure, make one. they arent that hard if you have a few tools. table saw helps, but its not necisarry. plus you'll have extra wood to make a box for someone else. again, just my opinion.

Hey rock!! What up?

Hey I was gonna get the IDQ but I decided on the Alpine Type-R. Mainly because I couldn't find the IDQ anywhere locally so I could hear the sub in person and I couldn't find a place online that I could trust and still get a good deal on them. Sure Soundhabit has them for $99 but I'm not dealing with some guy that doesn't even give out more of an address than a P.O. Box.

The only problem I've ran into so far with the Type-R is that it hasn't arrived yet. Everyone is out of stock on these subs. My local car audio store has the DVC's in stock but they want $200 plus I got to pay tax on top of that. I ordered a SVC 12" Type-R from www.thezeb.com for under $140 shipped. The problem is it hasn't shipped because they don't have any. TMS electronics was sold out too. www.bargain-expo.com is where I placed my first order but they appear to no longer be in business considering their phone is disconnected and they haven't replied to like 15 of my emails. They didn't charge my card or anything so I'm straight. I'll let you know how things turn out.

Hey did you ever finish that enclosure?? Lemmie see pics.

Steve

i bought from a bargain site too, bargaingiant.com. I ordered some CRAP blaupunkt subs for 40 a piece. luckily the order got lost or somthing and i ended up with my infinity's.

also, not sure who you were talking to about the enclosure/box, but i got a couple pictures of the ones i made:

I was talking about Rock's enclosure but yours look good too

Steve

ahh, yes, that would make sense since its his thread ;) ....

i think he said he's buying one tho

He was building a custom enclosure/amp rack/storge thingy in the back of the explorer. I just don't know if he ever finished it.

Steve

hrmmm, i'd be interested to see it if he did finish it

Whats up guys. I might hold out until you get that Type R mrsteve. I was interested in those as well. I found a guy on ebay that had those (had a very high feedback rating, too) and he was selling them for something like $140 or so. I never finished the box. I don't know if I can do it. I don't know if I can get all the dimensions right to gett he volume perfect and all. I would love to be able to finish that box and use it for a sub but I just don't know if I can everything right. And I don't cut wood very perfect, so there might be some open spots in the dividing walls in the box. I might as well try to finish it though. I have plenty of that particle board that I bought for the project and I have the big stuff done already, have more than 1 1/2 tube of liquid nails left, and I don't have to work tomorrow, so I guess I will try to make a little more of it. Is the Type R 1 cu ft as well? I will take another pic tomorrow once I get some of it done. I am going to go fnd some sort of online calculator now to find out what dimensions I will have to make the sub compartment on the box. I am going to go out now and fix it a little. My frned was messin around with me, and as I was pulling out of his driveway, he popped open my rear hatch, then I stopped, got out (car still running) to close it, so he jumped in and started pulling away and I hopped in the back and he slammed on the brakes and the only thing holding those 2 walls on the box up was liquid nails so one of the walls on the box it off now, all I have to do is re-liquid nail it. Also, if anyone else has a suggestion on what kind of sub I should go with or any places that have the IDQ (besides sondhabit cause I heard that place isn't too trustworthy) thanks guys.

Ok, I worked on it today and took some pics. In the pics the dividing wall wasn;t glued in, but now it is. All that is left is to cut the hole for the sub (which I am not sure of which one to get yet, still need suggestions), cut a small hole for the speaker terminal thingy, glue the top onto it, make a lid for the other side and put a lock on it that side, and cover it in something (carpet or vinyl, leaning more towards vinyl. Here are the pics I took:

Which do you think would look better, covering it in carpet or vinyl? I will be doing it in a tan color, hopefully one that will match the interior color very well. I may send in a sample color of my interior color (maybe a cut out piece of carpet) to a place that has a wide selection of vinyl and carpet and have them pick out a good match. Thanks for your help.

I just put a bid on an Infinity Perfect 12" sub on ebay. Hopefully I win it. I placed a fiarly high bid but it is only at $112 or something and there is no shipping for it, so that is why i went with that one. I have heard nothing but really really really good things about these Infinities from different message boards and all, so hopefully they are right. Also I talked with my friend and he gave me an idea that one of his friend's did on his box he made. He said he got a bolt or maybe just a threaded rod and put a nut on each side going through the box. Then he got some wire terminals that went aroudn the bolt and got wingnuts and put them on each side to hold the wire on. He said it holds it really good and has a good connection, and he can just undo the connection in no time at all, which is what I want in case I need to remove the box to fit something in the back. We are going to cut the sub hole out tomorrow at his house because he has a jig saw, and I don't. Then I am going to glue the top onto the box, and send out a sample of my interior color to www.selectproducts.com and geta good color match for the box. Can't wait to get all this done, I have really been missing my bass. Hopefully my amp is enough for the sub. If not, that will be going for sale up here and I will be looking for something else, with around 500-600 watts. Hopefully not though.
