Howdy all. I come in this new relationship with baggage. Ive been ALL OVER the threads and decided to post my own issues.

First and foremost... Im a Ford die hard. I have a 05 F150 with 330k and still running strong.

Now my issue....

07 explorer 4.0 eddie bauer
Bought it about a mth agi with 220k. Kinda assumed i would get decent time out of it with little issues. Definitely wasnt the case.
As soon as i got it, about a week later it started to over heat. I changed out the thermostat housing, but its still running hot every now and then... Im thinking its the radiator.

Monday in my way ti work it reved up high shifting from 2 to 3rd. Then it just stayed in first. Pakred it at work and when i went started heading home it worked fine for awhile, hen started acting up.

Father told me if it happens again to cut the car off.. Press the pedal to the floor quickly and then restart it. Seems to help, but still does it a little later.
I unplugged the ground.. Let it sit for 15mins or more and ran it again. Worked fine ( still reving high between 2-3) but would atlest not jump out of gear.

Now when i drive it ith the windiws down, i can hear a whining.

Need help gentlemen.
Thanks in advance.

Do you know the history of the truck ?
If it's original tranny, it's amazing it lasted that long.
Most likely it's its second and the servo bores are worn out. They seal well enough when the fluid is cold and dense, once warm it will seep through and not build the pressure.
Check youtube for "servo bores on 5R55S".
Your F150 has 4R70W most likely which is pretty good transmission, the 5R is not.

Its the explorer thats having the issues. I dont know the history of the suv.

I know it's the explorer with the shift flare.
What I wrote still holds :)

Ugh... I was hoping it was a fuse :)

The video i saw shows a guy drilling out the holes and putting inserts.
So at MINIMUM ill have to drop it and take it to a transmission shop.

Would it be better to just get a reman?

Wbat do you think about putting some limited slip in the transmission and just getting rid of it?

You can probably get a unit from a junkyard for under a 1000 but no idea what condition. I paid $ 1800 for a reman unit.
I have no clue about the limited slip additive, maybe someone else here tried it.
If the engine sounds ok, the car overall is a very comfy and nice ride. I'd keep it once fixed.

Check out the AJ1E superior solutions servos, they're supposed to help fix shift flares due to worn servos. 2nd to 3rd shift flare could be the valve body and if you're going to do that you should probably do the solenoid pack too. Check out "fordmakuloco" on YouTube, he has some good information regarding common issues with the 5r55s transmission. Only thing is, how much money do you want to throw at a high mileage vehicle like that.
