I get a terrible idle where the truck dies out on me and I do smell gas from time to time and it used to have baby baby drip leaks for awhile from putting in new thermostat housing which I had to remove my fuel line to accomplish but I've done everything i can try .it .it don't leak no more at all far as I can tell but the idling problem happens randomly sometimes cuz the truck will start right up no idle problems and run amazingly then I slow down or stop somewhere it idles awfully ruff and can sometimes die on me why I can't figure it out and I have tested for leaks and triple checked all fuses hoses and sensors it almost sounds like a delisle and its completely random doesn't matter if it's cold or hot out

Possibly a failing fuel pump... do a fuel pressure test... assuming no codes....

Which engine?

If fuel pressure checks out, how’s your IAC?

Possibly a failing fuel pump... do a fuel pressure test... assuming I just changed the fuel pump and fuel sensor for it I believe you barely two years ago and I always try to keep it full but never overfill it it really goes under a half tank which I know is what usually starts with having fuel pump problems

okay first up: try to slow down a bit, give us some info so we can help you.

99 explorer, 4.0 SOHC
( I am going to say it is a SOHC 4.0 V6 because the thermostat housing needed to be replaced. On the 4.0 and 5.0 pushrods the thermo housing is not like that.)

How many miles on your 99?

When you say you smell gas, do you smell raw fuel in the engine bay or do you smell like a rich condition from the exhaust?

Random Rough idle sometimes
and when it stumbles like this you said it sounds like it is dieseling?
Sometimes rough idle leads to stall, but then it will restart.

This could be a weak fuel pump
It could be bad intake gaskets
It could be timing issues

Not trying to be facetious but OP wins the prize for longest thread title on Explorerforum

I wanna go with timing cuz everything else was fixed recently but it sadly dont matter now cuz I just wrecked it all cuz I double checked my speed and someone was procrastinating their turn so now I even lost my place to live in my poor truck
