My 2000 XLT races to nearly 3000 rpm at initial start up.Like the starter spins the motor twice and it starts at 3K rpm. I dont like the idea of a "dry" engine spinning at that speed. It settles into a normal idle immediately but it acts like the throttle is wide open at start up.Is there any way I can adjust the start speed to something a bit more "normal" or is this simply the nature of the beast?

I'm curious if it might be the TPS. Any codes present?

Thanks guys,
I did see that other thread and it seems to be a common problem.Maybe not a "problem" per se as it seems to have be operating like it was designed to do. I still cringe every time I start it and think of all the metal on meta spinning at that hi rate with little or no oil pressure
