My 1996 3.0 ranger is "2 WHEEL DRIVE" with "REAR ABS". Why in the world would i be getting DTC codes for front abs failures? This vehicle doesn't have any.
I'm using an Actron scanner 9580. The abs light goes off with key off, and only comes on after i have moved the vehicle forward. The actual abs sensor is at 1200 ohms, normal. What gives? Any thoughts?
In my ultimate DIY knowledge, which I can only humbly attribute to your guy's help on forums like these, the RABS module in this truck must be the one used on 4 wheel drive trucks and is somehow triggering the PCM to read a fault when I move. What can it be?
The 10k resistor and its connections that's usually found in the underhood fusebox is not there, but the diode is. And if it's in the harness like the 95 models, I can't find it.My brake light works, the level sensor isn't shorted. Any ideas would be hugely appreciated.

SORRY! Mis informed! I have 4wabs. How naive to trust haynes manual which specifically says: rabs is for 2wd, 3.0 and 4wabs is for 4wd and 4.0. READERS AROUND THE WORLD=BEWARE!! :-)

Have you got a wobbly table that needs one leg packed up a bit?
There's a good use for your Haynes manual.

There really isn't any point having rear wheel ABS only.
What you've actually got is 1 sensor each on the front wheels and one single sensor for the whole back axle.

Go Haynes!

I'm sorry. I wasn't really bashing the Haynes manuals. I actually prefer it over Chiltons. (Wow that IS A BASHING!) I use it all the time for everything else, but I will keep that thought in mind just in case.. my abs is exactly as you described. Thanks for confirming that for me.
