I have a 1992 4dr 4wd Explorer that i recently bought. I have noticed that it seems to be leaking what smells like brake fluid on the frame rail of the driver's side. I searched on there and found that this is a common problem for the rear abs module to leak. I was just wondering if this is a repairable leak, or is it going to require the purchase of a new abs module. If it is repairable, is there a rebuild kit I can buy, or how do I repair it, if not repairable, where is the best place to buy a new or used unit.

Thanks,
Kevin M

bump....

does anyone have an answer here. I crawled under the truck the other day and found it is leaking from the rear abs valve. There is a large plug/screw that it is leaking from and I tried to tighten it, but it didn't want to budge. Is there a fix for this or will I need to replace the whole unit, and am I in any danger of loosing my brakes, or will this continue to work for quite some time? Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kevin M

Kevin I am not real familiar with abs system on that year explorer, but, I would not recomend any one drive a car that is leaking brake fluid.

Brakes always concerned me more than anything else on a car, they are one thing that just has to work right in order to be safe.
