Rear Axel Help

I have a new part time job; keeping my daughters 92 X running. My current question is what rear axel does a 92 sport come with? I checked the tag on the axel and its pretty difficult to read but here are the numbers I could get: Top line 55 22 B the bottom line was worse but the numbers I could read are ?3 27 88 2A0. Is this an 8.8?

She totaled her sport in Feb. but I just put in a reman a4ld. Not wanting to scrap the truck I found a nice EB in great shape with no tranny for under 1K and it runs great. I have stripped the sport and scrapped the carcass. Now for my motivation for the question. My vehicle is a 97 wrangler that I have a long range plan to build up. That 8.8 would be really sweet under my TJ. Now if that rear axel is an 8.8 I'm set.

Stay tuned, I'll be listing a bunch of parts that came off of the sport. Got to take photos and figure out what I should be asking for the various parts.

It's most definately an 8.8. (Happy? ) My guess from your numbers is it's got 3.27 in it.

If the drivers door is intact still (know where the carcass is???), you might also check the tag on it. The gear ratio is listed there as well.

I still have the drivers door. The axle code is 41? I don't think it really matters, it'll have to be regeared anyway. I'll be building for 35" tires so I'll be looking for some better gears so I'll be able to hit my 5th gear once in a while.
