Rear axle ratio - what is 'standard' ?

I don't know how flat or hilly Raleigh is, but 18 mpg in town is EXCELLENT, you should be commended, 18 mpg in town is the best I have heard of for an automatic transmission 4x4 Explorer with the OHV engine.

Well actually its a 5 speed. and Raleigh is pretty flat.

I suspected it might be a 5 spd, they get better mileage than the automatics.

gear ratio

My Ex has 3.27 gears and in a 5 speed it has plenty of get up and go. Granted you can feel it wanting to stall when you are "slowly" taking off. I just make sure my RPM's are high enough. On the hi-way I can cruise at 100 km per hour (60 mph for you guy's south of the border) in just forth with only 3000 RPM. When I shift to OD the RPM cuts back to 2200 on the level and I get outstanding gas milage. I need it to when the gas is 82.9 cents a litre. (About $4.15 gallon) I just hope when I pull my trailer it does not die on the hills.
