Alright, so the vacuum line on my '99 XLT 4.0 SOHC managed to rot off both my rear axle and wherever it connects to. The line itself is only about 3 feet long, and I can see where it connects to on the axle, but I have no clue where it goes to from there. I suspect it might be the fuel tank, but I can't seem to find the point where it connects. Can anyone point me to the right place? All it's causing is a check engine light and a little rough idle (it will stall when its really cold out, but not that often), which I can't complain about for having 217,000 on it, but I like it better in great condition.

If I'm reading this right, you're talking about the rubber line that goes from the axle tube to nowhere. If so then it does not terminate anywhere as it is the axle vent line and will not cause your rough idle or the SES to light.

it should have a filter cap on it and is mounted up somewhere near on the frame

Yup yup, just the vent tube for the rear diff... however you want to replace that hose and put it back on where it belongs. Just rob another filter cap from the junkyard if you don't still have the old one. I believe that it hooks on the frame on the left (driver's side) behind the rear. If you're spare tire is underneath there, not sure if it's there or not, it may be hiding the place where the vent tube should be hanging. Hope this helps ya out!

When I found it both ends of the tube were hanging down and it was just clipped to the frame. I'll look elsewhere for the suspected vacuum leak then. Thanks!
