Ford Ranger XLT 96 4X4
I have a 96 Ford Ranger XLT 4X4 V6 3.0L MFI with 4.10 rear axles ratio I will like to save money on gas i get 15-16mpg city/highway. Will a 3.08 ratio work My friend has the same truck he gets 22mpg city with the 3.08 ratio his truck is 2wd. Will the RPMs be less on the 3.08 than 4.10? I go 65mph the rpms are like 2650Rpms. Will the 3.08 get better Gas Mileage??

Thanks

Better milage yes but your truck will feel as if you have less power as well. A 4wd will never get the same milage as a2wd cause there is more driveline drag and the truck weighs more. Plus a 4wd you will have to change out both diffs. An increase in 3 mpg at an expence of atleast $500 will take alot of time to make up the difference.

You drive a truck if you are concerned with milage go buy an econo box.

instead of worring about the gear ratios looks at the exaust and intake that may h=get you a couple more MPG.

the tries size are 31's 235/75/r15 I got an dynomax exhaust Saving up to get a dual flowmaster mufflers. I have looked for a intake for my truck in there no for the 3.0L only for the 4.0L. If you can find one let me know.

Thanks.

i Got 269.6 miles for 18 gallons its a 20gallon tank that like 14.8MPG. Will a change of the fuel filter. Will improve the mileage a litte. A tuned up what will i need to do?
This i found on a web page..
Incorrect fuel ratio, bad spark plugs and incorrect spark timing can have a big effect on gas mileage...

How can you check if all of this are ok??

Thanks eveyone for your help..
