what year and model do you have? i am having a simmilar problem with my 06 limited. my 96XLT had a switch on the rear of the console to control the fan and I'm trying to figure out if the 06 has a booster fan.

thanks, steve

i have a 2000 Limited, myne has the controls on the back aswell but for some reason it just wont work. i got another blower motor from the junkyard and i still have the same problem, the rear blower motor will not work

is their a single lever on the rear of the console or twin switches?

there is a lever to switch it from floor to vent and a lever to change the speeds of the blower (Low, Med, High) than the radio controls in the middle

If my memory serves, you need to remove the whole console itself and split it open to get the blower motor out. May as well replace the resistor pack while you're in there as that will likely be the next thing to fail (and it's only about $15).

I reently replaced my blower motor and had to take the WHOLE console out. From the bisg harness connector in front under the message center to the back. I believe there are 2 bolts, one on each side of the console that you have to pull he front seats all the way forward to reach in order to remove the console. It is a pretty involved job, took me about 2 hours.

my 96 XLT i am sure has a booster fan, and it works fine. My problem is i just picked up a 2006 limited and it has no flow to the back seat. It doesn't have a switch for a fan or raido controls for that mater in the rear of the console. It such a nice truck i can't belive they left these minor conviences out of such a nice truck. The raido controls ar a minor dissapointment but the flow of added air to the back seat, cold or hot is not understadable. The lack of a switch on the console i thought might be due to the electronic A/C, somthing like the computer knows when it need to blow more air to the rear as the front also has auto fan setting. The possibly the fan or resistor going bad would explain the low flow. What I am trying to find out is, on the newer models when Ford offered aux. rear as an option the decided to drop the booster fan to boost sales of their optional equipment. My parts guy at ford even though I do purchase what I have to through OEM seems to have less and less time for me on the phone since i have bought my 2006. I am just wanting to find out before I pull the console out if their is a fan to be found.

I got a blower motor from the wreckers n it doesn't work either! What is the resister pack?? Is it something that is held on by 2 screws n gets plugged into?? How would I know if it's bad??

I'm not sure where it is located on the explorer but it will be between the fan switch and the fan it's self. What it does is vary the voltage to the fan motor, with a three speed switch their will be three wires going in and one comming out going to the fan. Inside the resistor their are coil windings and to check it ,you verfy voltage going in to each of the three legs "should be line voltage V12+" and each fan speed going out Hi, Med and Lo the voltage should decrease, high being available line voltage. You would need to check the service manual for exact numbers but a no reading or low reading would would be and indication of failure. The resistor normaly heats up slightly when it is reducing voltage and over a long period time the heat somtimes causes failure.

I have a 95 xlt and the rear blower fan went out also. I had to completely remove the center console. What a pain! Once all the nuts and bolts are removed, you have to pull (yank) the console backwards. It is hooked under some slots between the seats in the rear and has two guide posts that hold it in front. My problem is, I can't find the replacement motor. It is a Bosch BPA 12v part# 0130007342. It runs but keeps dying as i move it around when powered up. I think the brushes have worn out. Does anyone know where to buy this thing?

i just went to the auto wrckers and picked up the whole things and just replaced it.
