I changed my rear brake pads this weekend with 115,000 kms on them, I've had my 2012 Explorer for about 2.75 years, it is a FWD XLT. While the life expectancy of the rears seems reasonable my front pads still had 40-50 percent pad life left on them. On all of my other vehicles the rear pads last much longer than the fronts. I guess the pad spreaders on the fronts really make a big difference. I drive about 50% highway and 50% city, my truck gets lots of work use.
I find that the new rear pad replacements fit really tight, I'm using OEM Ford replacements. I'm not too crazy about how tight they fit. I'll monitor the rear pad wear and see how it goes.
Just thought I'd post my results. Anyone else replace their rear pads well ahead of the front pads ?.
