I have a problem. My rear disc rotors will not come off. Im trying to put new rotors on and the old ones wont come off. Has any one else ever had this problem. Is there such thing as a disc puller to get them off?
Thanks

could be hanging up on the parking brake assembly
which is inside of the rotor.

First make sure the parking brake is not engaged. Next go get a big hammer and some WD-40 or similar lubricant.

Spray the lube around the hub where the rotor goes up on it. Let it sit a couple of minutes then spray some more. Then take the hammer and hit the rotor in between the wheel studs. (not the part the pads contact) Whack the snot out of it, just be sure not to accidentally hit the studs. Hit it in a star pattern, like the pattern you use when you tighten the lug nuts. Keep spraying and hitting the rotor until it breaks free.

BFH man Hit it with the BFH (As a side note, what are you doing with the old ones?) And on my disc axle I bought there was little clips on like three of the lug bolts, those will hold them if you dont bust em off

You have to adjust back the parking brake. Use a brake adjuster, special kind of tool that looks like a bent flat screw driver. If you forced the rotor without adjusting back the parking brake, you will ruin your parking brake shoes and spend more money:hammer:

The parking brake shouldn't be holding it if not engaged. It shouldn't be touching the inner drum, so shouldn't need adjusting just to get the rotor off. If he has problems getting the new rotor to go on then he should adjust the parking brake.

Well, better be safe before wacking the rotor:D

1, Take off tire, make sure parking brake is OFF!
2, Take of Brake Caliper (2 - 10mm bolts)
3, Tie Caliper up out of the way.
4, take off Caliper Mounting bracket (2 Larger bolts
from the back side).
5, Take off the retaining clips that are on 2 of the 5
wheel studs. Try to save these, as it makes
re-assembly of everything easier.

That should be it. If you have any problems let me
know, and I will try to help you out!

You're in the north... They're probably rusted on there. I've never had a brake rotor just pop off after I've detached everything from it. Soak the areas where it is stuck, heat up it up a ton, and start yanking. FWIW, everytime I've had a frozen rotor, it gets destroyed while your trying to get it off. I've used a 3 jaw puller, a 2 jaw puller, and a slide hammer, and they've all worked in different applications, go to Autozone and see what rental tools they have. Good luck!

FYI, im in the NorthEast, and mine just fall off.........

I live in the northeast too....I just got my X back form the shop. I got the rear rotors replaced as well as the emergency brake system. The ford dealer that did the work for me said they had a hell of a time getting the rotors off. They were rusted on and it took them a LONG time to get them off. Thankfully they were nice enough not to charge me for the extra time it took. I dunno how they finally got them off but it's probably the same problem you have - you're just gonna have to keep working at it. Good Luck!
