I have a 4 door 96 Ford Explorer xlt. I was wondering if anyone has ever repalced the metal bars that connect to tthe door handle to the latch. Any tips and short cuts would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

the guy that i baught the explorer from told me that was the problem. so its possable the plastic clips went out? i mean the truck has 194,000 miles on it.

"Why do you need to replace the rods when most of the time the plastic bushings are the problem?"

Where are the plastic bushings located? My back doors are real hard to open and the kids keep breaking the handles....

How can I tell if the bushing is bad? Will it be broken or just gone? Thank you for taking time to reply

I just bought a box of those bushings/clips, and I've used several of them in the 4 years I've owned my Explorer. A dropped latch linkage in the right rear door is driving me crazy. any ideas on how to open the door without the latch linkage attached?
