My ex started making this bad grinding sound when I took off yesterday. And all of a sudden stopped going. Got out and the rear drive shaft where it connects to the rear axle sheared the joint on the shaft itself (u-joint) and also on the connection on the axle. Seem easy enough to fix even though I have never done it.

Anything I should know about replacing them?

Also, is it ok to continue to drive it in this condition? Seems to drive ok in 4wd. It is my daily driver.

Thanks.

Um, so did it just snap the the u-joint, or did it also break the pinion mounting flange on the axle? If only the u-joint, it's a simple 20 buck fix... Drive it, from what im understanding, no, cause the d-shaft could completely break free and flop all over.

both broken, flange and the u joint. I was thinking I could just remove the rear shaft and take it in to a shop to have fixed and meanwhile, replace the flange unless there is something special about the flange.....
