rear driveshaft mod. needed after SOA?

I'm about to do a SOA on my '91 XLT and wondering if the rear driveshaft will need to be modified or not? Will it drop enough or will I need a Cardon joint installed? Is it long enough or will it need to be lengthened?

Some do, some don't.. You can probably add limiting straps to prevent your slip joint from seperating.

i did a spring over axle on mine and i didn't need to lengthen it. could even flex it out... i was lucky i guess. he's saying some need to lengthen the driveshaft some don't

The driveshaft is at full extension when both rear wheels are stuffed and both leaf springs are flat.

My driveshaft disconnected while going over a speed bump.

My 91 X did not need to modify the driveshaft length. The shop that did the lift said that drive shaft lengthing was not necessary for SOA on first gen X and Rangers.

I didn't lengthen, and two years later I've notched my yoke because the driveshaft wasn't correctly balanced on the transmission bushing.
BUT, I didn't install shims, and my perches were welded on at 0 degrees. Had I had a correct rear pitch, maybe I wouldn't have had the driveshaft issues I've encountered.
ALL Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire (NH) and Southern Maine (ME) people: Go to Montrose Machines in Wakefiled, and ask for Bobby if you need ANY driveshaft help. GREAT guy! VERY affordable. Friendly. Great service!
