Rear end Gears question

'97 EB 5.0
Would rear gears from a 00-04 mustang gt fit a 97 explorer?

the Explorer rear is an 8.8 correct?
p.s. whats factory gearing?

I believe all the 8.8's are the same give or take the disc rears.
 






All 8.8 gears will fit in any 8.8 housing. You need special tools to get them set up properly, this is anything but a simple bolt-in. The "patterns" on the tooth faces have to be set up just right or the gears won't last long. In fact, if you set them up wrong and then drive it, even a little, the gears will be ruined!
 






your factory gears...are proably 3.73 but to be shure look at the axle code on the door...such as mine is 45 for 3.55's with open diffies...there is a chart around here somewhere.
 






yeah just make sure that the ring and pinion come together as a set, b/c each ring gear is cut to match the corresponding pinion gear.
