I've got a 2002 XLT, and have some rear end noise at speeds over 55mph. I've taken it in to ford, and they of course "can't hear it." Perhaps I'm just crazy, but it's whenever I'm going up a hill, or have my foot on the gas on the interstate. Has anyone else heard of this? It's coming from the rear end, near the axel. It's kind of a high pitch noise, that goes away as soon as I let off the gas.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks,

Feel free to delete, I've seen the other posts in regards to this.....looks like I'm not the only one.

Results vary, but mine, bought new in May '02, has done this since new, now at 92K miles, and it still does it - no better and no worse. I will hold out until it demands replacement. Good luck.

The rear wheel bearings are prone to crap out on '02 models, as well as the differential itself. What noise you may attribute to your tires may in fact be the wheel bearings. Mine had to be replaced (under warranty) at about 97K. About $700 if not under warranty.
