So I'm having an issue with my Ex. I get a low groaning/grinding noise whenever I'm pulling into a parking space. I only hear the noise when pulling into or reversing out of a parking space a low speeds, usually when ever I pull into or pull out of my parking spot at my apartment building (yes I am turning left into the spot reversing out to the right or left). I replaced the u joints about 6 months ago cause they were shot. the wheels also bind up and the truck kinda jerks forward or backward. Any ideas? wheelbearings? CV axles? got help not a rear end? thanks! 04 Ex. 4.6 awd

grinding noise while turning is most likely cv axles haven't had them go bad on my ex but my sho had them go out and was nasty grind while turning.

I only hear this noise in the rear not in the front so thats what is kinda throwing me off.

That sounds like the infamous Exp/Mounty, differential noise. Mine need repaired under warranty, at one point. But, the noise was beginning to return, recently. I had the differential fluid changed, and the noise went away.

Ibelieve the sticky, on this forum, about changing ayour rear pinion seal, outlines the fluid, and friction modifier need for the job. Ford changed the fluid from 75W-90 weight lube, to 75W-140 plus 40 oz of friction modifier. This should calm your rear diff noise. IF. IF, you don't have more serious problems. As I said, the guts of my rear diff had to be totally replaced, under warranty. Hope you don't need to do that.

alright thanks! I'm going to try that and see if it helps, hopefully that does the trick cause I sure dont feel like paying for a new differential.

is it the same for the front diff as it is for the rear? I just might do both.

Pretty shure it is. At least it's in both of mine.
