rear end whine.

when i accelerate i can hear a whining in the rear end. any ideas? anyone in the chicago area that can help me with a rebuild if needed?

I think you already have the answer. Sounds like it could be rebuild time.

Have you checked the rear differential fluid?

Dunno if yours is covered, but there was a TSB/recall on the whining rear ends. Check with your dealer and complain LOUDLY. I have heard of some people with LOTS of miles over thier warranty getting replacements. Also check the NHTSB web site to see if yours is covered.
 






The tsb is for the new IRS differentials. If you pull your cover, check your carrier bearings, they are somewhat common on 8.8. Not too bad to fix, however that is the problem and you had better not let it go for to long. The bearing will completely come apart and your carrier roam free inside the housing ruining the housing and everything in it.
