Hi all,

Somewhere in here I saw that someone had mounted fog lights on the rear window hinges. I think this area is a fantastic idea as I also want to mount fog lights (hence backup lights) in this location. Perhaps, I can integrate them into my Windjammer, not sure.

Will whomever did this please post any followups on installation woes, wiring and photos? Would love to see this install.

Great idea!

AC, I believe you are thinking about Raceit. Here is a link to the thread with the pics Dead Link Removed

Rear mounted fog lights project

Thanks for the link Jack. Some pretty good ideas out there so I think I'm committed to mounting the lights high above instead of under the bumper. I like the idea of better vivibility, anti-a$$holetailgater defense and the ability to light up the campground or stuck vehicle etc.

I just got a Windjammer rear deflector so first I'm going to see about mounting the lights inside that so I won't have to drill through the rig but we'll see. Whatever I do, I'll post picts.

Anyone else have input on this, I'd sure appreciate it.

I've got rear fogs

My rear fogs wired into my reverse lights and a switch in the dash. This way they come on when I shift into reverse or when I hit the switch in the dash. I've got double limo tint around the rear of my explorer, so I needed the extra light. Plus is really does help to enlighten thoses tailgaters. :D

Very nice...love the lights on top. Good documentation with the photos...just wondering though: on the inside of the rear driver panel, you show a relay for the lights I assume...did you run a hot wire from the battery to it or from somewhere else?

I ran a line directly to the battery so I could use the lights with the ignition off. I used the wiring kit that came with the lights. The only mod I did was to use two sources of power, the hot wire from the reverse lights and the wire I ran to the battery. I used to 3m tape that came with the lights to attach them to the roof, that way no drilling. They put out a fare about of light, but I going to look into upgrading the bulbs maybe some piaa's.

Well I just got my Windjammer spoiler back from the paint shop...looks great. Now, I just have to figure what to do with the reverse lights idea.

I would really like to put that set of Pilots (1" tall by 4" wide) on it but I'm concerned about wiring and waterproofing. Not sure, any ideas?

This is going to be a great project this weekend and I'll finally get around to posting some photos of my ride.

Maybe should have gotten the lights before painting it, so you could have notched out the rear edge to fit the lights. The design of the Lund should give you enough room to hide the wires up inside it. Then you could run them down on one end, and down the liftgate doorjamb to where ever you want to wire them in to. Depending on the size/weight of the lights, I have found that 3M double-stick body molding tape works great. It is the only thing holding my PIAA's in my bumper slot right now, and held the last pair of budget fogs in there for 2 years before I took them out. You could try taping them inside the Lund, or run screws through the top of it to hold the lights. Rivets might even be less noticeable than screws.

Thank you for the ideas. Yes, I should've done this before painting but I didn't think about it til I saw the message board here but at least I have a dremmel. The guy at the paint shop says not to put them there as they'll get hot and melt the plastic...etc. We'll see. I really want to put the lights up in the Lund and post the picts.

Also, I will be using the screws this time just to be sure but I'm going to paint and silicone the hell out of whatever I drill through.
