My 98 XLT needs an MOT in next week but I cannot get the rear Fogs working

I have checked the bulbs, the switch lights up when turned on, found relay under dash which appears to be working and also swapped with the one above which is the same and still no difference.

Both sides are not working - is there an in line fuse or another relay that controls both sides - I can't see anything in the owners handbook regarding rear fogs.

Any help would be very helpful

Steve

My first guess would be earth for the lamp.
If you have a multimeter you could check the continuity of the earth at the bulb end with a good earth on the body. should read 0 ohms.

If you click this link you may be able to down load this word doc that has an image of the wiring diagram for the fogs for a 98, might be some help.

If you manage to open it you will see that a part from the right has shifted to the left for some reason when i pasted it.

Thanks Jan
Unfortunately I cannot open any of the links for some reason.

I don't think it is the "ground" on the lamp as both sides are affected and they appear to have separate wiring to each side - although not quite sure as it disappears into loom, but does seem as though it is separate.

I would have thought it must be something that is common to both sides - fuse, relay etc but cannot find anything physically or in the owners book.

thanks again

Hey steve
just tried the links and they work for me. once the new box opens select download and the doc is yours.
If this still doesn't work there is a relay specifically for the fogs. My CD manual says its in the engine bay but this is for US models so not sure. Fuse is possibly no. 8 in the cabin or No. 4 of the 12 minis in dis box under the bonnet, relay is prob in the dis box also
Hopefully the box has a key on it!!
Good luck

Hi Jan
Still cannot open Doc file, when I try it ask in what format I want to open it - it tells me it is a word Doc but I still need to select a format?? tried quite a few formats and still no luck.

The relay I found is under the dash in another dist box which houses about 5 or 6 relays - can hear and feel relay is activating (also swapped with the one directly above as similar relay) and as I said the switch lights up as well so seems as though there is power is getting that far.

Visually checked most fuses as my owners book does not show any specific to the rear fogs but will check again, especially 8 & 4 as you have indicated.

The American version is different as they do not have rear fog lights in
America.

My mate is bringing his meter over in a while so I will check continuity as well.

Steve
