This is my second explorer, and I have had this problem on both models. I never knew what to do about it. I tried several cleaners, and none of them worked. I read in a thread about scraping with a scrap razor blade. I gave up on that idea after a couple of seconds fearing that I would scratch the glass. I then tried a polish called "Simichrome". The streaks came right off. Now the glass is clean and streak free. The silly part is that I have had this tube of polish sitting in a drawer for a few years.

Funny how that works. I too have had a similar polish, (Flitz or Metal glow) for years, that I use on firearms. I never gave it any thought about using it on the Ex. It works like a charm.
Thanks:confused:

So you removed what streaks? The ones from the wiper arm hitting it and making the 'awesome' rainbow shaped scratch? If so, i need to pick some of this stuff up. Cause I don't even have the rear wiper anymore and it's really annoying that it's there..

No, at least in my case. The buttons in the upper corners of the lift gate tend to oxidize as the paint dies, and results in iron oxide streaks going down the glass. They are very tough to remove after they have been allowed to "season" for a while. The Flitz, or metal glow or simichrome seems to work well to remove them.
Your problem might be solved by a glass repair kit from Advance or Autozone. I would try it in on something else first though. Or you may wind up with a worse mess than you have now. It's just a clear epoxy that is used to repair chips in the glass. Results are probably variable.

Oh, cool. I have that button oxidation too. I'll have to try that anyways. And thanks for the tip on the scratches.

I've tried razor blades. Doesn't work. All my windows have been cleaned with a razor blade at some point to get crap off of them.
