96 2 door Explorer Sport
Just wanted to first say hi to everyone. Just bought a 96 2 door & have been lurking for about a month now, and this site has already provided a ton of valuable information for my X project.
So, I noticed my Explorer seems to have what appears to be a lowering kit on it. Isnt that what this is? So I should be able to remove this and gain ~2", correct? Thanks in advance everyone.

Welcome to the site. What you have is a "monoleaf"

That would be a lowering block if it was between your leaf spring and your axle. Taking that block out in this instance would only shorten the stroke of your shock.

Best thing to do is swap it out for 4 door springs. Then you could add-a-leaf. You can also add shackles onto your existing setup and it will ride the same and gain a little lift and articulation.

Ahh, I see. Thanks for the quick reply, btw. So I'm assuming the shackle swap procedure for the monoleaf is basically the same as the one for the regular leaf setup? I've actually got some shackles, so I will probably do this.

The shackle swap should be the same.

May as well look for some 4 door springs at that point in a junkyard. 4 springs flexes better than 1 big stiff spring if you're going to do some offroading.

Good point. Looks like I'll be checking out some junkyards soon.
