Rear Lug nut studs

I'm switching gears here a little bit to get away from trying to get my explorer running after the engine swap. Im trying to replace the studs on the right rear wheel because 2 of them broke. I have gotten the parking brake assembly off but not sure where to go from there I cant get the studs in. Do I need to take off the back plate or remove the axle? If there is a previous thread on here please post a link. Thank you
