When I switched the rear from a/c to heat using the front controls/MFT the rear overhead vents only work if I have the temp set on level 2. If I go any higher the overhead vents switches to floor automatically. Is this suppose to happen....any ideas why if this is not suppose to happen......thanks in advance....

my Ex is in the shop right now for this issue. When you set controls to rear console, the top vents pump out heat at max but when switch to front, only works when at level 2 or under for heat setting. This never use to be the case so I thought something was wrong. I have another Ex as a loaner and same thing so it seems to be the norm. Was this updated with Snyc update? I don't like it.

Yea I think this came with the update to MFT....I wasn't happy at first but as I use it more now that's its getting colder here, its not as bad....when u change the settings to the rear they can turn it up to max. It keeps the cabin very nice n comfortable now, so I can live wit it....thanks...

You might be cozy enough with #2 setting in Virginia ;), but here you need all the heat you can get. Especially if the temperature drops down to the -40's. And winter lasts about 7 months in my neck of the woods, in fact it already arrived a couple days ago with a dump of snow. But since this problem seems to have started with an update, Ford should be able to fix it with another update.

I noticed the same thing on mine over the weekend. I was just looking thru the threads to see if others had the same issue. I don't think its broken since when I switch to the rear controls the top vents kick in and blow heat. Following for updates.

This is a case where I think it pays to NOT have the automatic climate control. My rear vents work just fine on my manual system.

I on the other hand knew nothing about this issue until I saw it here. And then of course I go outside and try it out and sure enough the roof vents don't work for me when I turn the heat up past halfway.

Great...a problem I didn't even know I had. And probably would have never known about it had I not stumbled upon it here first. And of course, now it bothers me even though I could really care less!!! LOL Stupid internet.

Doesn't heat rise?

Is this really a concern? Every car with auto control i've ever had goes to the floor when you need heat. Heat rises and eventually heats the car. Once the car is to temp it will switch to something else. I rode in the back of my Ex this last week when it was -10 and I thought I was going to die it was so hot back there. I guess I wouldn't be to worried about this. I do find it odd that you cant control this manually from MFT but it can be adjusted manually from the rear seats...

The system does this for functionality. If you want the best heating system, you want the airflow to come out of the lower floor outlets anyway, not the overhead registers. Similarly, for effective a/c performance you would want the air to come out the overhead registers and not the floor outlets. Warm air rises and cold air "falls".

None of us will probably disagree with you. However, the fact that you can select overhead vents for full heat from the rear seats negates your otherwise logical argument. And this thread, at least for me, is about being ABLE to do it, and I could care less about WHY.
