The rear shocks have a "Bar pin" in them- it goes through the eyelet on the shock and two bolts hold it to the frame.

You can remove the bar pins from your stock shocks and move them to another with the same eyelet size.

im not sure if this helps but here is a pic, they are on the right.

I'd say if they are the right length collapsed and extended- and the eyelet size is right on top, it'd be easy enough. You may have to check and see if the tank on the top interferes with mounting or the spare.

I put shocks for a lifted Tahoe on the back of mine when I did the superlift. I had to move the bar pins, and put bushings in the lower eyes to make my factory bolts fit, but they have worked well so far.

As MountaineerGreen indicated the rear shocks have a "Bar pin" in them. You would need to press out your old ones and re-insert them into the new ones. I would be more worried about shock length (collapsed and extended). You don't want the shock bottoming out before the suspension hits the bump stop or the entire weight of the vehicle will be on the shock during the collapse cycle (bent upper shock). Conversely having a shock that doesn't have enough extended length will place the weight of the vehicle on the shock during Axle drop; this basically limits flex and puts additional strain on the shock mounts. Rear shocks aren't as bad, but I've had a buddies front shock peel the upper mounting nut right off (sounded like a shooting :shoot: a BB into a steel trash can).

they are 17" collapsed and 27 1/4" extended with 10" of travel. I have them exact same shocks valving and all but with only 8 " of travel in the front. I have an AAL and shackled in the rear if that matters.

last question i swear lol. If i buy brand new shocks that are model and year specific to the explorer will they come with all mounting hardware and the parts you guyrs are talking about already installed??

i think im just gonna buy the 5150's and hope for the best lol. There is a guy on here that i bought my fronts from that has them on the rear of his ex so im gonna try to get ahold of him to see how they fit for him. i like the ones i have on the front and they will give me matching shocks and valving all the way around.

I just put a set of Rancho 5000s on my 96. They came ready to bolt up. everything that was needed.
