I have a question regarding the rear bearings on my sport trac. I've replaced wheel bearings before on different vehicles but.....before I go any further on this I was wondering if any one could shed some light on my problem. On an 05 Sport Trac do I have to remove the spindle from the rear dif to get to the bearings? And If so, what are the chances I'll mess up the preload by doing so? Thanks for any help I could get on this.

You have to pull the pumpkin and remove the diff pin to get the axles out. Since you're not actually removing the differential from the case, your preload will not be affected.

I think you mean removing the C clips that hold the axle shafts in their positions.

Maybe you have to remove the pin first before the C clips. :dunno: It's been many many years since I've been in my rear differential doing that stuff.

Yeah, you do have to remove it, thanks for the addition!

On second thought, if you've got a limited slip in the rear, that's a different kind of beast
