does anyone have any clue how to dismantle this mirror so I can reattach the base to my windshield.

the kit I bought says it wont hold the weight of the mirror for a few hours , and im not sitting in a hot truck until it cures holding the thing.

any tips would be great guys.

Does it slide off the baseplate or is it one unit?

the little metal plate that glues to your windshield is usually attached by it sliding into your mirror and then a set screw holding the mirror to the plate.

so to break it down: glue holds metal plate to windshield, set screw and grooves hold mirror to metal plate

ive tried and tried to get that metal plate off but it seems to be in there pretty good, maybe I need to force it a bit more but I wasnt sure and didnt wanna bust it since im sure it will be alot of money to replace.

I was hoping someone else came across this problem before.

There are actually special tools to remove and replace the mirrors without the set screws.

Now, Ford says do THIS

thanks, ill let you know how this works out

yeh sorry bout that its hit and miss on the set screw style its the only style i have dealt with so i was not aware of non-set screw style

I'm also having trouble re attaching the rear view mirror. Mine has a spring steel clip that won't really spring. Anybody replace one of these types?

conclusion, pay someone to do it, the kits dont work because it isnt possible to reattach the mirror to the base without ripping the base off again, and no adhesive that I have found is strong enough to hold the entire mirror weight and set properly, Im going to a glass shop this week.

The Loctite kits do work if you follow the directions, used them many times.

I'm sure a glass shop will be happy to take your $$ though.

Im in canada we dont get any good stuff like that, just the cheap crap from canadian tire that their automotive guys say doesnt work.

20$ and its back on, vs the 30 I spend on adhesives
