Rear Wheel Play

I have an 05 Sport Trac 4x4 with 150k on the clock. When I went to rotate my tires the other day, I noticed that on the rear wheels, there was some play parallel to the axle. That is, that when I'm facing the wheel, I can push it in and out, maybe 1/16-1/8 inch. It's the same on both sides. Is this normal? I'd expect a bit of play, but is this an indication of something starting to fail? I'm starting to shop for a new truck, and wouldn't be surprised if this one is starting to get jealous and decides to break on me.

That little bit of play is normal, now if it were say around 1/4" I would take it to a shop or fix it yourself if capable asap.
