Rear window button removal?

i pulled the radio bezel/radio today to repaint, and I'm stumped as to how to remove the twisting button for the rear window. i tried pulling but it didn't come out. How do you get that thing out?

But you probably didn't do anything to the 2 black plastic tab/pole, it has a melted tip to secure the switch. Just cut off that melted tip and slide off, I believe. I made sure to leave as much as possible because I plan on melting the tip when I reinstall.
