rear windows all the way down?

02 windows go down all the way because they are SMALLER. If you look, the fixed window is larger so the window can clear the wheel hump in the full down position.

You are right, I just measured and the glass is approximately 3" narrower than the '91 xlt. The door is larger by a couple inches though on the '02 explorer.

Being an engineer, I can answer this easily...
The rear windows only go down part way because when you go into pickup mode with your tailgate open (I call it an airbrake at that point) things don't fall out the rear windows.
My vote is for child safety but who would seat a child in the back when 4wheeling? (That's what the roof rack is for!)

I've seen new subarus driving around, i think it was the Outbacks...and the rear windows go down at an angle

in my last post the drawing got skewed oh well...

the front of the window goes down, and the back goes down a bit then looks like it pivots so the front can drop down at an angle....like this car i saw driving today, on hydrolics with the front short and the back hiked up

have any of you guys ever seen how far the windows go down in a 97 tahoe or other chevy.... my girlfriends mom has one with power windows..... Well i was in the back and hot so i tried to roll the window down...I actually thought that there was something wrong with it... Power windows and the damn thing only opens like 4 -6 inches..... i couldnt believe it.... all that wasted door space and not to mention the motor in the door.... for 6 inches .... comon people..... they might as well make kiddie gates for the windows.....

It has to be due to the wheel. My Grand Marquis rear windows go all of the way down. Why would Ford think Children should jump out of cars, but not SUV's. Then again, I guess it would be further to fall from my Mounty?
