hey guys, ive got a problem with my rear wiper coming on on its own. just happens randomly, sometimes when i hit big bumps but for the msot time its randomly. sometimes itll stay on and wont come off, just stays on the lwoest setting. im pretty sure ive narrowed it down to the switch as when the batard comes on, i can turn the switch back a little from the off position and itll stay off but when i let go it sometimes goes back on again.

so im wondering what it takes to change this switch and hwo much work im looking at to get the dash panel out of this truck. its fairly new to me, only had it for about 3 weeks and so far i havent had the urge to take anything apart, lol, also a general price im looking at for one of these, thanks

So sometimes when you turn the wiper off it's stays up on the window and sometimes it comes all the way down? It's not catching on something back there is it? It's not hard to get the radio bezel off and change the switch. On the upper lip underneath where the AC controls are there's two screws. After you take them off it just pulls off. You might have to pull pretty hard. It would also be easier to remove the radio first. You can get two pull tools that look like u-bolts at an auto parts store for about $5 for the radio. Once you get the bezel off just unplug the harnesses from the switches. On the back of the bezel there's just a couple screws holding the switch on.

Ditto. I agree it sounds like your switch is bad. The only way it'll move is if the GEM tells it to, and the only way the GEM will tell it to is if it's bad, or if it's getting the input from the switch telling it to.

The switch is as mentioned above. No need to remove the stereo IMHO. Remove the two screws and pull the trim off, and the switch is right there.

sweet thanks guys, yeah it jsut comes on randomly, i dont even use the rear wiper but shell come on by herself, lol.

i was worried about yanking it, i saw the screws and i know on my 97 cavalier that you have to undo parts of the dash to release clisp or they break and i didnt want to go through that with the truck aswell.

as its now the weekend, you guys have any idea how much im looking to spend on this thing?

thanks again

Nope. Not on the ex. Two screws and pull. It's really that simple.

To verify it's the switch, just unplug it and go for a drive. If it's the switch, the mystery wiper will stop.

If it continues, then we've got an electrical gremlin to chase.

thanks joe, electrical gremlins like that are fixed by removing the fuse till winter time, lol
