I'm sorry if this is a repetitive question. Which rearend would be in a 97 Ranger with a 2.3 4cyl? Where they all 8.8'
s by then or was it still a 7.5? what was most likely the gear ratio then?

Again, sorry if this is a repetitive question.

Thanks,

Gerald

I'm almost positive it would be a 7.5, I think only the 4.0 rangers came with a 8.8 up to 97. Then all the 98s and up came with the 8.8. If it is a 8.8 I still wouldn't swap it in to your ex b/c rangers are 28 spline while explorers are 31

All 4cyls got the 7.5" (even today they do).

Check the axle tag or door code for the ratio (3.73 is common, but others are possible).

Hmmm. I thought I read somewhere that all 98 and up had 8.8 axles. Oh well, I'll take your word for it.

1998-up 4x4 supercab Rangers regardless of powerplant are frequently equipped with 8.8" axles

Yep you were right, I didn't notice the "4x4 supercab" part.

There are 99-06 rangers w/ 7.5" Ring gears. Both are 28 spline and use the same axle shafts. There's also 99-06 31 spline rangers w/ the 8.8.
