hi. i drive a '94 XLT 4x4 automatic with the 4.0L V6. last fall i had an accident and got the front end banged up pretty bad. i've already replaced the front bumper, but the left fender, hood, grille, right headlight housing, and the body piece under the grille still need replacing. not to mention the radiator housing which got bent during the fender-bender accident as well.
for the last few months i've been considering 'rebuilding' my explorer, starting with the exterior and working my way in. for starters, i need to replace the body panels and hood. this is where i had thought about perry's fab'n'fiber services advertised here on rick's site. does anyone know how much a full conversion to the '96-'99 body style costs? i really like the new style, and it looks really nice with the brushguard and stuff like that. for the engine, i want to rebuild it. either that... or is it possible to upgrade a '91-'94 4.0L V6 to the later model 5.0L V8? it'd be nice to have a little more torque, and i simply love the V8's grunt. the only thing i plan on modifying for the engine are plugs/wires, intake/exhaust (not necessarily catback, maybe just muffler/tip), and maybe a jet powerchip/thermostat.
for the interior, i plan on recarpeting the truck, and getting new floormats. also i want to replace the headlining, since there are several scratches in the front. after this, i plan on getting the center console upgrade from explorer express. for audio, i've already upgraded my headunit to a kenwood kdc-mp8017, but i'd like a little more bump, so i thought about getting a small sub to put in the cargo area in the trunk and an amp for it (nothing too fancy), and maybe some better speakers for clarity - i've been looking at the infinity kappas.
anyway, just tell me what you think about my plans, and hopefully some prices for the body conversion... hopefully i'll be able to start fixing it up (which will include repainting it) this summer, and maybe go to the buliding up route after that. btw, i don't plan on doing too much to the truck in the way of appearence, but i did have a 2" body lift and new wheels/tires in mind (and rancho rs9000 shocks of course). thanks for your suggestions.
