Rebuilding transmission yourself

Has anyone rebuild an automatic transmission themselves?

I was thinking of getting one from the bone yard that is non-functional and try rebuilding it myself mainly for just the experience of doing so, plus to have one readily available if mine does go.

Seems like a fun project..Ok, fun isn't the correct word, maybe mechanically challenging?

there are actually threads around here about it.... its an a4ld tranny rebuild diaryy, but i bet the principles are the same.... get a factory service manual, the one i have for my yota has detailed drawings and actual pictures in a step by step format on rebuiling hte automatic tranny
