Hey

I got an explorer with 1-2nd shift problem, went only letting of gas to 2nd.
third fourth and revers were fine. As the oil was pretty dark so decided to overhaul it. The disks and bands were worn but nothing broken. Replaced all bands and one entire drum from 5r55 what has bearing under it. Also both servos. Tooks the valve body apart and cleaned it, also changed the sticking 2nd gear valve. Fire tested solenoids, replaced epc. The result is that desired 2nd gear appeared and all shifting was great. After third test drive lost overdrive. I got the code 648 4th gear ratio failure. Took of the pan inspected the band and just in case took a solenoid what was spare and replaced it. With finger the valve was moving fine. Took it to drive and same no overdrive gear, also hooked al test wire to 3rd solenoid. It is kicking in and out fine when playing with throttle on highway, still no physical overdrive. The torque converter is locking good on 3rd gear.
Is there any other related valves to overdrive besides the one under 3rd solenoid. It is here -35C wheater so it will tomorrow be pain to get valve body off, really don't want to repeat it:D Even hooking up the wire was pain enought.

did you replace the OD servo ? if not, maybe the servo seals are old & hard and not doing their job.

Yeah, replaced both of them. New servo and stuck somehow?
Is there any other valves related to overdrive, besides the on what is under the solenoid?

Sorry my bad....
My Torque wrench was bad, bought a new one and tightened the valve body and andjusted the bands once again. That wrench let things loose so never got the band in to spec I guess.
The result is that finally I have the desired 4th gear. No code 648 anymore.
