Recall 09B11

Don't know if this helps, but I just had mine done yesterday, and when they were finished I had to sign the the receipt so Ford could get paid for the warranty work, and it was only $66.

They also let me know that my radiator was leaking (I already knew it,) and that for $800 they could do the job. I said no thanks, not today.

Does anyone know if this part, the circuit board, can be purchased? I could do the repair myself.

Update

UPDATE: I took my receipt into the Ford Service Dept. They took down all the info, submitted it to Ford Headquarters someplace, and within a month I had a check for the entire replacement cost, including tax.

Just found this site by doing a Google search on this very problem. My 2006 XLT had about 30,000 miles on it in December when this problem became really bad. I made an appt. and took it in to the dealer. They replaced the entire gearshift mechanism for hefty $$'s. I even asked whether they couldn't just fix part of it without replacing everything. Now I find out there is a recall on this.

My question to you good folks is what is my recourse now? I feel I should be entitled to the entire charge back, even though they probably did more than the recall provides. I can't believe that just 3 weeks before the recall was posted they weren't aware of this issue and what the fix was.

I haven't contacted the dealer yet. Any advice on what my approach should be? (I hate confrontations!)

I am having the same problem but I didn't get a letter and the dealer said that this recall does not apply to my vin #. Do you think I should replace the board myself or it could be something else causing it to get stuck?

Thanks

Did you ever figure this out? I am having the same problem. Any advice?
Thanks

No recall notice here on my 2007 EB.

I am going to take the chance. I just ordered the part (circuit board) $31.99 plus tax, from the dealer. I will not get it until next week. I will post a reply here to let everyone know if it worked or not. It seems to me that this problem is happening at many other Explorers, not only the ones that Ford CONTROL indicates the deffective part went into. I am very disappointed with Ford...but they all suck anyway. There is no COMPLETELY HONEST car maker.

Just saw some of your other posts and see you have a V8. Do you have the 6 speed automatic transmission as well?

Interesting thread; I had a "sticking in park" issue a few years back that was fixed under warranty. Wonder if it was this part that was replaced, and if I got a newly designed board or they just replaced the bad board with a new, but still poorly designed, board?

FIW, the part # for the circuit board they installed in my vehicle last month, is 9L2Z-7J437-B. I don't know where they installed it, but the labor was .6 hrs.

Yes. It is a 6 speed auto as well.

There must have been a change in the board then between, for example, yours and mine.

If you replace the board yourself, see if there are any stickers on the old board with a version number of the board. This way, maybe someone who hasn't had the replacement done yet will request their old board back so they can tell you what model is on theirs.

It is also entirely possible that your board, being likely a different version than those that were recalled, is fine and it is actually the brake switch which triggers it. I know the brake switch is a somewhat common problem for F150s of the same years (though different transmissions).

I will post the board info here when I get the new one and replace it. Yes, it might be the brake switch but the board is $20.00 cheaper...so I am going with the board first then the switch if it does not solve the problem.

In my experience, the brake switch is often just a contact which connects two leads together. This being said, the easiest solution would be to pull the brake switch harness when you have the problem and jumper it with a paper clip. This would save you the cost of the board if it does end up being the switch.

Also, in my dad's 2005 F150, I had success by depressing the brake pedal a few times and continue trying the button during each depression so this may be another alternative for you.

Good luck, keep us posted. Hindsight, wish I'd asked for the old board back even just as a spare for years from now if the replacement fails. My original board never caused me any issues but I am only at 60k miles.

when i got called the ford 800 number, the advised me if i dont have any problems with the shifter, they u dont need to take it in... i received my letter 11 months ago and have 3 days to act on it before they would charge me for part. I am thinking of not doing it cause I had bad experiences at my ford dealership in the past where the check engine light will keep on coming on after we take it in for repair to them and they the only dealership on the entire island where I live in hawaii, so I have 2 options keep the original part in thats working fine or take it in to have it replace and hope the technicians doesnt screw up on anything else that would cause the cel to turn on

Does anyone know what this is for? i got the post card right before Christmas? Calling Dealer Monday but i would like a heads up, if anyone knows what it is I'd appreciate it, And also If you know appox how many days they take to fix the problem if its there. Well, i should say how long it SHOULD take. Its my only source of transportation and i have a 1 year old daughter, Does anyone know if they would be willing to give me somthing to drive if it takes more than a couple days?
Thanks.

This recall replaces a board which controls when you are allowed to shift the transmission from park into gear. It is only an hour or so labor.

If you make an appointment and don't just show up expecting it to be done immediately without notice, you can probably wait for the car there.

I have never experienced Ford giving loaner vehicles, but maybe it can happen for a multi-day service. I have been offered a ride to work as I only work a few miles away from my local dealer, but no pickup offered.

Wow! I get stuck in park more often than not! I was planning on having it checked out after the holidays anyway! Thanks! Unasked about a loaner bc when I bought it there was Somthibg wrong with the gas Gage and they gave me Somthibg to drive, thank goodness it's a quick job!
Thanks again! My mind is now at ease I was worries it was Somthing real serious and haven't been driving much with my daughter. Thanks again.

Good news.. sort-of. I had this recall done for sake of getting it done in the first year like the paper said. I never had it stick in park before that. Now it is sticking in park every 5 or so times I go to shift out of park.

Pulled out the owner's manual and around page 263 it describes a little door under the rubber cup holder base. Used a separate key and popped that open. Then pushed the key and moved the little lever. Was able to move it out of park.

I think someone with a smaller finger than mine could probably move it with their pinky.

Little more annoyed now that I didn't ask them for the old part back. Since it is so easy to bypass except when I have a coffee in that cup holder, I won't be bringing it back to the dealer until it is happening pretty readily. Otherwise, with my luck, it won't happen for the dealer.

Forgot About the recall

So I forgot there was a recall, and now I am having issues, and they want to charge me for the recall. Does anyone know what parts I need, and where I can buy them?
