Recall 09B11

Stuartr, The letter does'nt say what models and years are on the recall. I was suprised that mine was to be honest. I would get your VIN and call the stealership or check the website. (website prob best bet)

Thanks I need to do that.

Hey there guys, I am new to the Explorer but I just bought an '06 Eddie Bauer 4x4 v8 and haven't noticed anything yet. Was there a milage that the problem started at?

welcome to the forum, yes there was a mailer but you probablly would not have gotten it. Check with your nearest dealership and they can run the vin and tell you if it has been done.

I think mine started around 20K miles. I have 28K now and no problems.

I have 48k miles on my 06 V8 and got the recall notice. I have never had this symptom so I'll wait till the end of the year to get it done just in case I need some ESP work done while I'm there.

Mine is fixed. The problem was becoming annoying, and I am glad it is repaired, especially after reading that the manual release sometimes did not work! The interlock was added to vehicles after people in Audi 5000s were stepping on the wrong pedal due to poor pedal placement design. I hope no more such junk is added to all vehicles due to the unintended acceleration of the Toy-Awful-A vehicles.

correct me if i'm wrong. the recall is for the inability to switch out of park because the lever fails to know when you press the brake to engage the ability to change gears?

lol! when i first bought my car brand new. had this problem pretty badly..... took it to the dealership i purchased it from, they didn't take care of it. (Crappy service advisor) took it to another dealership and had them replace my gear shifting console, now the car works perfectly :)

I had this issue when I first purchased the car and it was fixed under warranty. At the time they replaced the whole shift lever with one that appears to be slightly taller.

I had to have my '06 XLT towed due to this problem. And that was after 2 previous trips to the dealer for the same issue, but they dinked with the brake solenoid instead. Haven't seen any recall notice yet.

recall didn't fix

Hi I've never posted before but need some info. I have been having this problem & figured it was just my mountaineer. It is worse on cold days & if I let it warm up the shift will move. I was thrilled when I got the recall notice and had the service done the other day. It didn't help & sorry to say I questioned if the dealer just said they did the work but didn't. I called the dealer & was told the recall was done & my problem may be caused by a break light issue. Does this make sense to anyone?

My 06 Eddie Bauer was at dealer today to have this done. Also, since my radiator is leaking - for the third time - I also wanted them to reprogram the PCM according to specifications on TSB from 4/09.

Dealer called to tell me that service tech diagonsed that I had a leaky radiator. I told them I already knew that and I hoped they weren't going to charge me a diagnostic fee for something I told them was going on with the vehicle.

Going to independent mechanic, who I trust more than my local dealer, to have radiator replaced with most current update of the part. Hopefully, the new part and reprogramming of PCM will do the trick.

Who am I kidding, I just hope the new part fails within 12,000 miles so I don't have to pay for its replacement.

Just found this site by doing a Google search on this very problem. My 2006 XLT had about 30,000 miles on it in December when this problem became really bad. I made an appt. and took it in to the dealer. They replaced the entire gearshift mechanism for hefty $$'s. I even asked whether they couldn't just fix part of it without replacing everything. Now I find out there is a recall on this.

My question to you good folks is what is my recourse now? I feel I should be entitled to the entire charge back, even though they probably did more than the recall provides. I can't believe that just 3 weeks before the recall was posted they weren't aware of this issue and what the fix was.

I haven't contacted the dealer yet. Any advice on what my approach should be? (I hate confrontations!)

Just got mine back from the shop today and they just swaped the board with no probs. I would call Ford customer service and see if they can reimberse you for the money you spent (ufauxreal)

Unfauxreal - The notice I recieved in the mail from Ford said if you paid for the repair already you MAY be entitled to a reimbursement. I believe it said to go through your dealer for it, but I'm not positive because I through the letter away. Good luck!

my VIN isnt covered?!

According to Ford, my VIN isnt covered inthe 09B11 recall, even though I have a 2006 explorer xlt that is experiencing the same symptoms. Anybody have any advice?! This sucks.

Don't know if this helps, but I just had mine done yesterday, and when they were finished I had to sign the the receipt so Ford could get paid for the recall work, and it was only $66.

They also let me know that my radiator was leaking (I already knew it,) and that for $800 they could do the job. I said no thanks, not today.
