2004 Explorer Sport Trac
Hi All, I would like to introduce myself first. I am new to the forum and a friend suggested I hop on here for a misfire issue and pick some brains. The vehicle- 2004 Sport Trac 4x4 with 158k on it. I picked it up last weekend for a great price + some bartering.
I dropped it off at a local shop and had all the brakes, calipers, rotors replaced, they found a misfire on 2 and 6. They put new coil packs on and it seemed to help. The vehicle sat for some time, leaves in the airbox, horrible air filter, stuck calipers etc.

Now, upon start up it's rough and it idles rough, gets warm and smooths a little bit, until I give it some gas.10-30 mph is ok. Then from 40-70 it's stuttering and hesitating, trying to push through the rpms. I've cleaned MAF, IACV, and intake, new air filter, new coil packs, checked for vaccum leaks. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Clogged/not working fuel injector? I don't see where you said the spark plugs and plug wires were replaced?

Sorry for late reply I've been busy. The spark plugs and wires are tomorrow after work but I ran into the following today. I actually went to work on it today. Did a start up and quick drive. I had a very high pitched squeal, maybe like in between a dog whistle and a tea kettle. While in park and driving, hits around 3k rpm. This concerns me more than the misfire or maybe it is related. I have two videos. One one of noise from the drivers seat and one from over the engine bay. How do I host these files? They're mp4
Any suggestions

IDK if we're talking about the same hi-pitched noise, but my '01 Sport Trac has always made a similar noise. It's not terribly loud, but it's right up there near dog whistle range. It's never caused a problem and never gotten any worse. I mainly notice it when I get out of the truck to open/close my gate.

As far as not rev'ing past 3000 RPM in PARK. The PCM limits the RPM to 3000 when in PARK or NEUTRAL. That's normal, you're hitting the rev limiter. While driving it should run up to 5,000 RPM or so between shifts though.

for the misfire a good place to start is the plugs and wires, let us know how that turns out
If the check engine light is on are the codes misfire on cly 2 & 6 or are there more codes?

hi pitched squeal from the serpentine belt area or from the engine internals?

Something else to check... because someone has already been messing around with the coil and plug wires, make sure that the wires are installed on the coil in the correct firing order.

How much gas was in it when you picked it up? How much have you ran through it?

Had a whistle noise in my 2003 Explore 4.6. Turned out to be an exhaust manifold gasket.
