As I understand it, the axles used in the Explorers are the same 8.8's used in the F150s. Would it be feasible to just cut and respline the full size axles instead of ordering new custom axles?

The short answer is yes. Moser will cold cut and respline your axles for you. They say it's strong. But, if a rear axle brakes, then with C-clip your screwed. If you cut a front axle and it brakes, oh well, at least you can drive home. Secondly, I think you would have to switch to the larger F150 drums, which isn't a bad thing just costly.

New axles - $300US - $450 Can
Cut F150 axles - used axles $100/pair
- cut and respline $100/ per axle
=$300 - your not saving any money...

Cheers

Dale
