92 XLT
Been awhile since I've been around but I thought I would ask for some opinions. I have a 92 XLT with 167K miles on it. It has some rust holes under the back doors and a crumpled fendor but otherwise is in fairly good shape.

My 18 year old has been driving it and with him graduating high school and going off to college in the fall, I am reclaiming my Expl and want to do a clean up and fix up on her. I should mention that this truck is basicaly stock.

Trans was rebuilt at 120K miles. Brakes were done about 10K ago. Shocks were done at around 100K. Lower arm bushings were replaced at around 90K (rubber not plastic). Power steering pump is original but whines like a spoiled rich girl. Starter was replaced at around 160K. 2nd exhaust was replaced at 140K. Only current problems are the turn signals and rear window defroster short out. The seats (leather interior) are pretty saggy and the drivers side recline lever is broken off. Oh, its gonna need tires in about 6K miles.

Obviously the first thing is the body work to fix the holes and the fender. I also thought I would replace all the hoses, belts, filters, plug wires etc so I am starting at a common point.

My intent is to keep this as a back up, occasional off road, tooling around vehicle for me.

So now I ask for opinions. What else should I do? Should I just go ahead and have the engine rebuilt, should I upgrade the engine, exhaust, shocks, suspension? Not sure I want to do a whole hog off roader but I would consider a mild upgrade to make give it better performance and make it more off road worthy.
