i talked to a mechanic and i want to run 38s and put 5.13s, he told me that i dont even have to regear my axles, and also, if i put 5.13s then it will take my explorer a long time to hit like 70 mph on the highway or something, im pretty sure i have to regear, but if i do, will my explorer be way slower with 5.13s than with 3.73s? not counting all the weight im adding with the tires and such.

5.13s with 38s is fine... it will actually acclerate faster... however it wont go much past a certain cutoff point....

but.... 38s on stock axle is pushing it.. the stock configuration can handle probably up to 35s without issue, but any bigger thanthat and if you actually wheel will break stuff all the time......

you need to regear.. if you dont then your truck wont accelerate and you will fry otehr parts like the clutch or the auto tranny..... that mechanic is :smoke:

ok thanks

If that is what your mechanic said, I would find another mechanic.

If you can even maintain 70mph with 5.13s and 38s I'd be suprised. 4.10s and 35s i have to downshift to 4th to get up hills and even then it's lugging.

5.13's with 38's will pull better than stock... do the math.

Fordbeast is running 4.88s and he maintains 70-80mph easily and is even turning about stock RPMs for thos speeds.

4.10's with 35's is a little hig geared, thats why most with 35's go to 4.56 or 4.88
