Hey all i'm thinking about regearing my truck. I found a set of 3.73's for a great price (front and rear). Is this something that can even be attempted by a mere mortal or should I take it to a shop, i'm a starving student (well not quite starving) so paying shop fees isn't going to fly right now. Over christmas break I was going to head to the salvage yard and try to find a totally new rear axle and third member for the front, If I just buy new gears I can easily invest in a good intall kit with the money I was going to spend on junk-yard axles. I'm just curious...

Thanks!

I personally wouldnt do it myself. Most have professionals do it. AlaskanJack did his I think... Maybe pm or e-mail him about it.

If you have to ask yourself if you can do it yourself or not, then you currently don't have the resources or knowledge to do it.

And going to 373s isn't worth it, and it depends on what tires you want to end with.

yeah i'm not going to. Instead i'll probably just goto a pull a part place and pull an entire rear axle and front diff, I don't really think the axle and diff will be that much anyway since they sell engines for $100. ANyway I do have one question. If I do this it would be a good chance to go ahead and upgrade to disk's in the rear. Is there anything else i'll need besides a porportioning valve? My abs will probably won't like it...but I don't like my abs. ANyway thanks for the help!
