Hello again! Time for a reintroduction. I joined this forum way back in 2001 after purchasing a 1991 Explorer, only posted twice. Didn't have many problems with it. :)

Since then I've been through a dozen different cars and trucks including a couple Q45s, a 2003 Range Rover, a Maxima, a Navigator, an Escalade, and a Lexus LS. I guess I have a preference for SUVs. I also moved across the country from Washington to Missouri. 2001 seems like yesterday!

I recently picked up a beater Explorer for the winter, a 1996 XLT with 206k for $553 (was $550 but the guy didn't have more than $7 in change for my $20 bill).

AC is ice cold, 4WD engages and works, shifts okay, drives out okay. Has the classic Cologne V6 lifter noise. CEL (p1151 and p1131) is on and its low on power. Got me home just fine.

New head gasket, dented fender, new battery, decent tires, mismatched wheel. Interior is horribly filthy! All the power options work. The paint is actually pretty darn good.

Here's the pics:

Totally gross inside. Carpet stains, dog hair, sticky stuff, dirt.

If I get 6 months out of it I'll have gotten my money's worth. I intend to use it for snowy days and hauling stuff from the warehouse. Of course, I'd like to get it running properly and keep it around if I can.

I also have a 98 Mustang with 85k and recently sold a 2005 Crossfire SRT6. I'll be searching the forum heavily for solutions. Picked up a Haynes manual today.

:)

Good deal for $553. Hard to find a good beater for that kind of money these days. Good luck with it.
