So my trans is heading south and probably pretty quick. I have done everything I could to get 275,000 miles out of it, but it recently started to make some rattling noises inside and the fluid is turning grey. I really don't have the time to rebuild or repair what I have as its my daily transportation. So I am looking for some recommendation's for places to get a rebuilt / remanufactured transmission from.

Also can anyone tell me what other years will work? Its a 1997 Explorer with the 4.0 SOHC ,5r55e and its 4wd. It does have the drum speed sensor on the top, but I think I have read somewhere that you can bypass it if the replacement does not? Thanks

So I found another vehicle to drive and it gives me the opportunity to possibly repair my existing transmission. I know its a long shot, but I was hoping someone could give an idea of some things to check when I get it pulled out. This what happened the other day. I was having a problem with delayed engagement in drive and reverse, basically it would take 1-2 seconds to engage from idle then would shift normally after that. Same delay in reverse. I pulled the valve body down and found blown gaskets and replace them and it did help but did not totally solve the problem. It is a rebuilt valve body from CVB. So the other day I got in to go some where and I could hear a low rattle that sounded like it was coming from the front of the transmission. I went and check the fluid and it was gray so I did not drive it any more. I checked the codes and it had the (1743?) code for the TCC circuit which is the one that comes and goes with the flashing OD light that the truck has always had. Any ideas?
