did soem searching but cant find any recent threads. any way winter is around the corner, its freezing already and i am tired of waking up earlier to let the truck warm up as well as take the long cold walk out to it.

i am pretty good with electrical, and am want to install a remote car starter. range will not be an issue as it is maybe a 100 feet from window.

whats a good bang for the buck remote starter now a days? also anyoen have a write up and can give me a estimated time on how long it takes to install?

thanks in advance.

don't try to do it yourself. a very good friend of mine did these as well a stereo installs for a living and had shown me some of the "i can do it installs". take it to a shop that sells and installs them. that way you will also have a warranty with it.

i have a detailed write up, with pics and all of every plug, wires, etc. plus my buddy who helping used to install these at best buy a few years back, and is an electrical engineer.

not quite,, still would like to know what is a decent remote car starter, and know what issues others have ran into that i will need to look into. that and supposedly i need a additional module to work with the oem theft device

Installing is not hard overall. It was the getting around the PATS device that was difficult for me when i installed mine. Sorry its been years since i did it, so i dont have any recomendations for you as to brand or type.

How many keys do you currently have?

If you have 2 keys already, just buy the part and the owner's manual explains how to program a 3rd...if you only have 1 key, then you'll have to get a dealership to do it which takes about an hour and $80 (just had one done, but the price varies a little bit from dealer to dealer)

I have been using Ultra brand remote starters on several vehicles for ten years now and they have been very nice with no problems or even broken fobs. Middle of the road units, the fancy LCD remotes are to big and hi-tech for me.

Advice: a reputable authorized installer no matter the brand. PATS bpass module, extra $50 I think.
I never had a key made all my cars came with 2 and I never lost anyway. Have always used bypass modules.

Local Ford dealers in town wanted $65 to program a new key. I thought I would get it done in Buffalo when I went this summer, but Basil Ford wanted $100 said it took an hour. My daughter had a Softball tournament in a rural (Ontario) area, and after I dropped her off at the diamond I went to the local Ford dealer and they charged me $30 plus tax. Took him 20 mins to do it.

i have 1............ sigh........ i am going to read into this install some more. everyone around me wants liek $250 ..... thanks for the advice.
