2004 Sport Trac
At the end of February my 2001 Sport Trac was destroyed by a brilliant individual who failed to yield until my drivers door stopped him. I have acquired a nice 2004 Sport Trac to replace it. The 2004 is lacking several of the features I have gotten used to having with the 01. The two features that I miss the most are the remote entry and the cruise control. When I bought the 04 it did not come with any remotes. Can someone tell me how I can go about discovering if the vehicle is equipped with remote entry? If I find the 04 is lacking the necessary parts, will the RAP module and remotes work with the 04? Would anyone know if there was a dealer install cruise control option available for this year? If not is there an aftermarket kit someone can recommend?

I have looked in the storage conpartment behind the rear seat and do not see the RAP module there in either vehicle. The 04 has a hole in the carpet that looks like it could be access for a wireing harness, but nothing there. Would the module be under the carpet or somewhere else all together?

The remote module is behind the passenger airbag. Turn your ignition switch from "OFF" to "ON" 8 times and see if your locks cycle. If they cycle buy the remotes off of eBay and program them per the directions in the owners manual. If you don't have an owners manual get it here in pdf:

A lot of Fords are pre-wired for cruise and just lack the mechanicals to make it work. Not sure if the 04 ST is or not.

I'm guessing you have an XLS.. the truck is wired up for cruise, you just need a clockspring/wire assembly, cruise buttons, servo motor, and cable. It should all plug in to existing wiring under the dash/engine bay. I added it to my XLS so let me know if you have any questions about it. More or less plug n play to existing unused harnesses. I found a kit that ford sells for adding factory cruise on ebay, it had everything I needed and some extra that I didnt end up needing. I think it was for a late 90's explorer, but would work for a lot of years/makes.

from what I have read your best bet to get keyless entry is to go aftermarket. You can get a nice DEI remote start, keyless entry setup installed for a few hunred... I am suggesting this also because that's what is in my truck, but i'm sure if you tracked down the wiring and modules keyless can be added as well.

I did some checking at the dealership today. Had the parts guy run the vin number. I'm out of luck on the factory side of things. Gots to do somethinking and decide if I want to live without the features or go the aftermarket route.

How can you tell if your truck is wired for cruise? I have been trying to find a factory cruise kit on ebay, but haven't found anything other than aftermarket kits like audiovox.

I went to the parts counter at the local dealership. The guy ran the VIN number in his omputer and told me there was no replacement or optional parts listed. If the truck is wired the parts should come up in the dealership computer, no parts = no wires.

You want to see if he knows what he's talking about????

Have the counter guy run this VIN and see if it's wired for cruise. Let me know what he says.
