2017 Explorer XLT
Hello,

I'm new to the Forum so we'll see if this works.

I'm adding an Amp to my 2017 Ford Explorer XLT and cannot find a sufficient remote power source. Thought I had found it on one of the connector wires that plugs into the factory installed head unit, but strangely enough it supplied 12V when the ignition was on, but only when the connector was unplugged from the head unit.

Does anyone have advice on wire, fuse, location to use for remote power to the amp?

I have a voltage meter and it looks like the most common way to do this is by using a fuse tap, but I cannot figure out which fuse to use. I'm hoping that the under hood fuse box will have one, because the fuse box in the cabin is located on the driver side up above the parking break and really difficult to access although it would be easier because I wouldn't have to run a wire from under the hood into the cabin, but I already have the main power wire routed from batter to amp and I would use the same path.

Any advise, like which specific fuse to use is highly appreciated.

Thanks, Dan

Welcome to the Forum Dan.
I haven't done any mods since I lease my vehicles. I'm sure other owners have tapped into a 12V supply since adding amps, etc have been done. You could try using the 'Search' feature at the top right to try and find some info. Here is a post of mine I found that may or may not help; Powered Sub Add-on to MFT/Sync2
BTW, the radio is always powered.

Thank you Peter. Very much appreciated!

There are several key-on circuits in the car that could be tapped for an aftermarket amp turn-on input. Bn/Ye (CBP23) is used to turn on the power inverter, and it runs to a few other devices. But since you didn't say where you plan to put the amp, it's hard to give you a real suggestion. What's wrong with the factory amp?
