The bypass modules that don't require a key are no more secure than than a module that does if you render the key useless. All bypass modules, programmable or key based only require a trigger to active them. If a car thief wants your car bad enough, and they can find the bypass, they only need to know how to trigger it to defeat PATS. And if a professional thief wants it there is plenty of technology out there(transponder cloning, etc.) to make it easy. Pats is not foolproof. It provides only a little more than an aftermarket alarm does. Don't get me wrong, as factory security goes it's pretty good. The average car thief's job is no easier if the car has a remote start with a bypass module than if it doesn't. Here in Jersey we have some of the highest insurance in the country because of car theft rates up north, and I have never had any of the major companies I've dealt with tell that I'm not covered because of my remote start bypass. That being said I don't want to steer anybody wrong, so I agree with jad2411 putting a key, cut or not in your steering column is not a good idea. Outright defeating the factory security that way could cause them not to pay. But check with your insurance co. about the remote start. That's just my .02
